Google Search Console is a fantastic platform for getting the most out of your website, monitoring it’s search performance and ranking. Here are no. of useful features within Google Search Console which you can use to monitor and improve your ranking.

Monitoring Backlinks - Search Console allows you to monitor which sites are linking to yours. This will show you a list of domains which are linking to your website and when they were indexed. The quality of the referring domains can greatly improve your SEO ranking. If you want to find out more about Backlinks, here's an article I wrote recently.

Mobile Usability - It goes without saying that in 2018, it’s vital that your website is mobile responsive. 35% of Webcraft’s traffic is from mobile and many of our clients are experiencing 50%+ of their traffic from mobile devices. Google Search Console’s Mobile Usability feature flags any issues relating to your website’s mobile usability.

Index Status - You can view which pages of your website have already been indexed and which pages have been submitted and not yet indexed by Google. This is a handy way to see if your latest content has been recognised by Google yet.

Search Analytics - This is my favorite part of Google Search Console as it allows you to see what search terms people are using to find your website - This gives you invaluable insight into which keywords are working for you in attracting visitors to your website. This even allows you to see the no. of impressions your website is getting for certain search terms and also your website’s click through rates on these particular searches.

Crawl Errors - Using this feature, you can find url’s related to your domain which are bringing you to a 404 page. This is usually a result of old or broken links which have previously been indexed by Google. It’s important to have a user friendly 404 page in place as this can help improve the user experience and keep visitors on your website.

Submitting and Testing your Sitemap - In order for Google to crawl and index your website as soon as possible, we highly recommend you submit your website’s sitemap to Google Search Console. This allows Google to crawl and analyze your website faster and easier and will allow your website to be indexed a lot sooner than if you wait for Google’s bots to come across your website organically.
