How to register a .ie Domain?
March 28, 2018
In this blog post, I will talk you through the four steps involved in purchasing and registering your .IE domain with the Irish Domain Registry.
Is Your Chosen Domain Name Available?
I find the best website for checking for domain name availability is https://www.whois.net/ - AN .ie once available usually costs 25 euro excluding VAT. If you are a registered VAT paying customers you will of course be able to have to claim the VAT back in expenses. You can then purchase the domain on IEDR’s website or a commonly used Accredited .i.e Registrars such as Register365, Go Daddy or Hosting Ireland
Do You Have the Necessary Documentation?
This is quite straight forward process. If you are registering a domain for your business, you will need to be able to send your Registered Business Number or your VAT Number. If it’s for personal use, a photocopy of your passport or driver’s licence will suffice.
Arrange Domain Name Hosting
Select one of IEDR’s Accredited .ie Registrars who can then help you complete your application. They will also be able to provide you with additional services such as hosting packages, email set up and more.
Submit Your Application
Submit your application to your chosen Registrar including the supporting documentation which proves your connection with Ireland and your claim to the domain name and the IEDR will then register your .ie domain for you.
If you are unsure of any of the above steps or having difficulty registering your .i.e. Domain, feel free to pop me an email and I will be happy to help out. Look forward to hearing from you.
